Our purpose is to protect, advocate, and enhance parks and green space in Sooke
Our Story
Friends of Sooke Parks Society is a registered non-profit formed in 2023 with a simple purpose: to protect, advocate for, and enhance parks and green spaces within the District of Sooke. We organize park clean ups, invasive species removal, tree planting, and free fun community events like our Spooky Pumpkin Walk and Solstice Lantern Walk. In our rapidly growing community, our goal is to increase awareness, appreciation, and support for public parks and green spaces.
Our membership is open to anyone who cares about preserving, improving, and expanding local parks and green spaces.

Why Parks Matter
Parks and green spaces are at the heart of a vibrant, healthy community. They provide safe, welcoming, and free places where everyone can gather, connect, and recharge.
For Community: Parks are where neighbours meet, friendships form, and families gather. As our population grows and housing densifies, access to nearby green space is more important than ever.
For Health: Parks give everyone equitable access to outdoor space, encouraging physical activity, play, and the well-being that comes from being in nature.
For Nature: Parks protect vital natural spaces—forests, creeks, ponds, and open green areas—that support biodiversity, improve water quality, and provide habitat for wildlife.
For Climate: Parks cool our neighbourhoods during summer heat waves, buffer noise and traffic, and help build resilience to the impacts of climate change.
Preserving and expanding urban green space is one of the most meaningful contributions a community can make—for today and for generations to come.

Becoming a member of Friends of Sooke Parks means you’re adding your voice and support to the protection and improvement of our community’s most important public spaces - our parks and green spaces.
Your membership helps in three key ways:
Strength in Numbers: When we speak up for parks, Council and decision-makers listen more closely knowing we represent a broad and engaged community.
Sustaining Local Action: Membership dues and support help us cover essential costs like insurance, supplies, website, and society fees, so we can keep organizing park-based activities.
Building Community: Members are part of a network of neighbours who share a love of nature, healthy living, and strong community connections.
Together, our members make it possible to advocate effectively, run inclusive community programs, and ensure that Sooke’s parks remain healthy, accessible, and welcoming for generations to come.
